Double Six Beach is the busy southern end of the Seminyak shoreline, named after the nightclub that once anchored the road running down to the sand. As beaches here go, it is one of the more sociable, with rows of beanbag bars, a steady stream of surf lessons and a promenade that links it to Legian and Kuta. The wide beach faces due west. That makes it a natural gathering point as the afternoon turns to evening and the sky over the ocean begins to colour.
Surf and swimming
The beach has a sandy bottom and rolling beach-break waves that suit beginners, and surf schools cluster here to take advantage of it. Soft boards are easy to hire by the hour, and instructors run group and private lessons through the day, with calmer mornings generally better for learning. Swimmers should watch for rip currents and stay between the safety flags, as this part of the coast can pull hard when the swell is up. Lifeguards patrol the main section.
Beanbags and bars
Toward the southern end, a line of open-air bars sets beanbags and low tables straight onto the sand. There is no fixed rental: you claim a beanbag by ordering drinks or food, and many bars run happy hours through the late afternoon. The result is a relaxed strip of cocktails, cold beer and grilled snacks that fills steadily as sunset approaches. It is a cheaper and more casual scene than the polished beach clubs a little further north.
The promenade
A paved beachfront promenade runs the length of this coast, connecting Double Six with Seminyak to the north and Legian and Kuta to the south. It is popular with joggers and walkers early and late in the day, and it makes wandering between beaches easy without returning to the traffic of the main roads. Vendors sell drinks, fruit and kites along the way, and the flat surface suits an evening stroll.
How to visit
Double Six sits at the southern edge of Seminyak, a short scooter or Grab ride from the centre, with parking on the approach road. It is best in the late afternoon, when the surf, the beanbag bars and the sunset all come together. Combine it with a walk north to the quieter Seminyak Beach and its beach clubs.
