Who writes Bali Frontier
Bali Frontier is written and edited by a small team, publishing under the team name. There are no invented bylines here and no stock headshots presented as correspondents. We are a research and editing operation: we read carefully, cross-check, and write in plain English. Where a claim rests on somebody else's reporting rather than our own observation, the page says so.
Where the facts come from
Practical detail comes from Indonesian government and provincial tourism sources, UNESCO and heritage listings, published ferry, shuttle and flight schedules, and consular and embassy pages for visas and entry rules. Temple dress codes, ceremony closures and entry fees are taken from the sites' own notices where they publish them. Tour prices and inclusions are read from current operator listings, never carried over from an older version of a page.
Anything that would wreck a day if it were wrong, an entry requirement, a crossing time, whether a temple is closed for a ceremony, is checked against more than one source. Where sources disagree, and on Balinese entry fees they often do, we publish the disagreement rather than the tidiest number.
Lines we do not cross
- We do not invent first-hand experience. You will not read that we watched the sunrise from Batur's crater or wandered the Ubud rice terraces at dawn, because on a guide built this way it did not happen.
- We do not publish incentivised or fabricated reviews, and no operator has ever been offered coverage in exchange for anything.
- We do not pad a page to hit a word count. A short answer that is right beats a long one that circles.
Software assists the research, as it now does in every newsroom, but every page is written, checked and edited by a person. If a place is overrated or a tour is not worth the money, we would rather say it.
How the site is paid for
The guides are free and carry no advertising. We are paid a commission when you book a tour or a transfer through Viator or a place to stay through Agoda using our links, at no extra cost to you. The money changes nothing about what we recommend. Tour lists are ordered by review volume from the Viator feed, not by commission, and a hotel does not earn a warmer write-up for being bookable.
Why prices are ranges
Balinese prices move with the season, with the rupiah and with how you arrive at them. We give ranges rather than a single figure that would be wrong within a month. Every page that quotes a fee or a fare is tracked on an internal register with the date it was last verified, so a stale number gets found rather than sitting there. This is a static site: figures were correct at the last build, and the price shown at the moment you book is the one that counts.
When a page gets updated
When something real changes: a new route, an altered visa rule, a site that has changed its arrangements. Not to stamp a fresh date on untouched text. We would rather a page be quietly correct than loudly refreshed.
Where the pictures come from
Most photographs are licensed from Wikimedia Commons, with a handful from Pixabay, and every one is attributed with its author and licence on the image credits page. Hotel photographs are supplied by the booking platforms that list those properties, and tour images are served from the Viator feed rather than hosted by us. We do not pass off a stock sunset as our own snapshot.
Tell us when we are wrong
If a price has gone stale, a detail has changed or we have simply got something wrong, let us know and we will fix it. A correction is a favour, not a complaint. More about the project on our about page.
