Uluwatu is an evening, not a day. The clifftop temple at sunset, the Kecak fire dance at seven, and for many people a seafood dinner on the sand at Jimbaran afterwards. What you are choosing between is how much of that chain someone else arranges.

The listings fall into three bands: a dance ticket on its own, a ticket with a guide and transport, and the full sunset-plus-dinner evening. The price gap between them is wide, and so is what happens if the traffic on the Bukit runs late.

Private or shared in Uluwatu

The Kecak itself is a fixed performance with hundreds of seats, so private buys you the transport and the timing, not a better view. What it really buys is not queuing on the cliff at sunset with a coach party, and a car waiting when the show ends rather than a scramble in the car park.

What lands on the bill later

Temple entrance is often excluded from the headline price. One listing spells it out at 50,000 rupiah per person.
The dinner at Jimbaran is usually a paid option, not part of the tour, unless the title says otherwise.
The monkeys at the temple take sunglasses, hats and phones. Every operator warns about it and none insures you against it.
Sunset seats fill first. The cheapest tickets are for the later session, when the light has gone.

Our verdict

Pay for transport, not for a better seat. The dance is the same performance whichever line you join, so the money is best spent on someone else driving the Bukit at dusk and waiting for you afterwards. If you already have a driver, buy the ticket alone and keep the difference.
