Nusa Penida is a rugged island off Bali's south-east coast, reached by fast boat and known for its cliffs and clear water. The T-Rex ridge at Kelingking Beach, the natural pools at Angel's Billabong, the arch at Broken Beach and the steep steps down to Diamond Beach are its headline sights, most of them on rough roads that take time to cover. Crystal Bay is the calmer base for swimming and manta snorkelling. The island is large and the tracks are poor, so two days or a well-planned single day trip work best.
