Dream Beach is a small cove of white sand set below low cliffs on the south-west coast of Nusa Lembongan. The water is lively rather than calm, a strong shore break rolling straight onto the steep beach, and a clifftop beach club sits above with a pool that looks out over the ocean. The beach and the surf
The cove is compact, hemmed in by rock at each end, which concentrates the surf onto a short stretch of sand. Waves break close to shore in a heavy shore break, so the water surges up the beach and drags back with force. Smaller days make the swimming more manageable. Even so, the beach is better known for its energy than for gentle bathing, and photographers come for the contrast of white sand, turquoise water and breaking surf.
The clifftop pool
Above the sand, a beach club has built a pool right at the cliff edge, a calm alternative with an open sea view. Day passes typically cover the pool and sunbeds, and the terrace is a comfortable place to sit out the hotter part of the day. Staying safe in the water
The shore break that makes Dream Beach striking also makes it demanding. Waves can knock you off balance close to shore, and the backwash pulls hard down the steep sand. Confident swimmers should still enter with care, watch the sets, and stay out of the water altogether on bigger days.
