Wanagiri Hidden Hills is a run of photo platforms strung along a ridge above the twin lakes of Buyan and Tamblingan, a short drive from Munduk village. From this high ground the two lakes lie side by side below, backed by forested slopes that often carry a band of cloud. Swings, nests, gates and other props have grown up to frame the scene and made the spot popular. Strip all that away, though, and the outlook over the lakes is still the real reason to stop.
The view over the twin lakes
The ridge looks down on Lake Buyan and Lake Tamblingan, two lakes separated by a narrow strip of forest and often seen together from above. On a clear morning the water is calm and the surrounding hills stand out sharply, while later in the day cloud can drift across and soften the scene. This is one of the defining views of the Munduk highlands and a common reason visitors climb up from the lakeside road. The cool ridge-top air adds to the sense of being well above the coast.
The photo platforms
Several operators run rival platforms along the same stretch of road, each with its own set of swings, wooden nests, love gates and raised decks. Staff help visitors on and off the props and take photographs against the lakes behind. Each platform charges a small fee, and some add extra for particular set-ups, so ask before climbing on. These are built for visitors but remain informal attractions, so follow the operators’ guidance and take care near the edges, especially after rain.
Timing and practicalities
Because the ridge is high and the weather shifts quickly, an early visit usually gives the clearest view before mist gathers over the lakes. Mornings also mean better light for photographs and shorter waits at the busier platforms. Carry small rupiah notes for the fees, as there is no card payment, and bring a light layer for the cool air. A stop here is short and easy, which makes it simple to slot between the waterfalls and the lake temple.
How to visit
Wanagiri fits neatly into a highland circuit around the Munduk region, often combined with a swim at Banyumala Twin Waterfall just below the ridge. It lies about 15 to 20 minutes by road from Munduk village, reached by scooter or hired driver since ride-hailing apps are limited in these hills.
