Banyumala Twin Waterfall sits in the wet, green hills near Wanagiri, above the twin lakes and a short drive from Munduk village. Two falls drop side by side down a mossy rock face into a single pool, which is where the twin name comes from. The setting is cool and shaded, part of the wider highland zone of clove and coffee plantations that defines this corner of north Bali. Set against the busier waterfalls near the main tourist routes, it stays calmer.
The falls and the pool
The two cascades run in parallel down a broad wall of rock, fringed with ferns and trailing plants that stay green through the year. Where they meet the ground they feed a clear pool with a green tint, shallow at the near edge and deeper towards the base of the falls. The pool is one of the more inviting spots for a swim in the Munduk area, since the water is clean and the current is usually gentle. Spray drifts across the lower rocks, so anything you leave on the bank may pick up a little damp.
Getting down to the water
A stepped path runs down the jungle slope from the small entrance gate. The walk down takes around 10 to 15 minutes through dense green cover, with handrails on the steeper sections. Wet stone gets slippery, so wear shoes with grip; the return climb asks more of you than the way down. Take the steps slowly and rest where you need to. The path is well made rather than rough, which puts the falls within reach of most visitors steady on their feet.
What to bring and know
Weather in these hills changes quickly, and light rain or mist is common even when the coast is dry. Morning visits tend to offer the clearest pool and the softest light for photographs, before the day warms and more people arrive. Bring cash in small rupiah notes for the entrance and parking, a swimsuit and towel if you want to swim, and a light layer for the cool air. There are only basic facilities at the top, so plan for a simple stop rather than a full day out.
How to visit
Banyumala works best as part of a highland loop through the Munduk region, paired with a stop at the Wanagiri Hidden Hills viewpoints just up the ridge. Ride a scooter or arrange a driver, as ride-hailing apps are unreliable in these hills, and follow the signs off the main road towards the parking area. From there the stepped path leads down to the falls. For more ideas on filling a day in the cool highlands, see our guide to things to do in Munduk.
