Banyumala Twin Waterfall is in Wanagiri, in the Sukasada district of Buleleng regency, on the hill road between Lake Buyan and Munduk. The main fall drops about 36 metres into a canyon thick with tropical trees, and a second, smaller fall to the right gives the site its twin name. It is one of the better-kept waterfalls on the north Bali circuit, with a paved path, toilets and a pool you can actually swim in.
Tickets, hours and the walk down
The ticket is Rp 50,000 per person. Two guides updated in 2026 give the same figure, and one of them expects the price to keep rising as the waterfall grows more popular online. Children under 10 go in free, though staff may ask for proof. The site opens at 8am and closes at 6pm, with last entry at about 5pm. Everything is paid in cash.
Parking is Rp 2,000 to 5,000. Cars stop at one of two car parks partway down the access road and walk about 10 minutes to the ticket booth, while scooters can ride all the way down if the rider is comfortable on steep roads. A scooter taxi back up from the booth costs Rp 25,000, which is worth considering with bad knees. Older guides say the ticket includes a bottle of water, a walking stick and a bracelet, but a reader reported in November 2024 that these were no longer given out.
From the ticket booth the walk down takes 10 to 15 minutes and covers about 1 km. Most of it is concrete steps beside a bamboo handrail, with muddy or gravelly stretches in between. Going down is easy; coming back up is the hard part, mainly because of the stairs.
Swimming at the pool
Yes, you can swim at Banyumala. The water is usually about waist deep, chest deep at its deepest, and one guide calls the current generally calm, although an April 2026 guide describes it as strong under the falls with room to wade to the side. It suits a quick dip more than a long swim. For swimming, the better spot is the second fall on the far right of the stairs, where the pool is calmer before it runs into the river. Near the main fall the usual photograph is taken from a small bridge below it.
Sources differ on facilities at the bottom. One guide lists toilets but no changing area, while another says there is a changing room and a toilet at the base. Bring a towel and dry clothes either way, and a little small change, since using the toilets is by donation.
When to go and what to combine
Peak hours are 12pm to 2pm, when most tours arrive. Before 10am the waterfall often feels almost private. The season matters little, as this part of north Bali is cooler, foggier and wetter than the south throughout the year, so pack a light rain jacket.
Banyumala is a long way from the south coast: about 56 km and 1.5 hours from Ubud, and 2 hours from Seminyak or 2.5 hours from Kuta. It makes most sense as part of a north Bali day. Wanagiri Hidden Hills is 2.7 km away, Munduk Waterfall is 8.5 km, Handara Gate is 10 km and Ulun Danu Beratan is 13 km.
