Lahangan Sweet is a ridge viewpoint in Bunutan village, Abang district, Karangasem, in the hills above the Amed coast. It looks straight at Mount Agung, the most sacred mountain in Balinese Hinduism, with the sea on the other side. It is not a national park or a temple but a community project, and the road up is steeper than most visitors expect.
A viewpoint the village built
According to a Bali travel guide, Lahangan Sweet was not built by large tourism investors but gradually by the Bunutan village community, who own the land. Income from entrance fees and the jeep shuttle pays for maintenance and goes towards village development. The address is Banjar Dinas Gulinten, Bunutan, Abang, Karangasem.
The ridge has about seven photo spots, bamboo and wooden platforms, a small shelter, toilets and a cafe, plus a campground. The most popular photo spot is the tree platform, a short walk from the entrance. A gate similar to the famous ones at Pura Lempuyang can be found here without the long queue. At sunrise the sun rises on your right, and the light moves across the summit of Mount Agung and the valley below every minute.
Getting up the hill
From Amed it is a drive of about 30 to 40 minutes, ending at the lower car park and ticket area. After that the road is unpaved and very steep. Two ways to cover the last part: the village-run jeep, which one 2023 report puts at about Rp 50,000 per person for the ride up from the car park, or walking about 800 metres. A 2026 guide says a 10 minute walk is short but steep.
For sunrise you will be arriving in the dark. It is cold on the ridge before the sun comes up, so bring warm clothes. The cafe may not open until about 8am, so bring water and snacks.
Fees, hours and camping
Sources disagree on the price, so treat any figure as a guide and carry cash in small notes. The newest dated listing we found (27 May 2026) gives entry at Rp 50,000, the swing photo spot at Rp 50,000 and the jeep from the lower car park at Rp 50,000 return. A 3 February 2026 blog says foreigners pay Rp 20,000 and locals enter free. Another guide, undated, gives Rp 100,000 plus Rp 3,000 for parking, and a further listing says entry is free with parking at Rp 2,000 for a motorbike.
Hours differ too. A December 2023 article gives 6am to 8pm, while 2026 guides say it is open 24 hours because of the campground. The May 2026 listing gives camping with your own tent at Rp 40,000 and a hired tent at Rp 250,000. The site also has a generator, and one guide reports toilets without showers.
Planning the day
A typical plan is an early start from Amed, back down for breakfast, then a morning snorkel at Jemeluk Bay and a swim at Amed Beach. Pura Lempuyang is 3.8 km away, about 12 minutes by road, so some visitors combine the two. From Ngurah Rai airport the site is 92.6 km, around 2 hours 40 minutes by road.
